Al Strong

Join us Thursday, December 11, from 7–9:30 pm on the Roof for a special Holiday Edition of Al Strong Presents, featuring Durham’s own two-time Grammy-nominated trumpet player, composer, recording artist, and educator, Al Strong. Gather with friends and enjoy an evening of live jazz and holiday classics high above downtown Durham, paired with festive hot toddies and seasonal treats on our heated rooftop.

This year’s performance will also lift up a cause close to Al’s heart. We’re partnering with the Durham Arts Council to support the Creative Arts in Public and Private Schools (CAPS) program, and there will be giveaways and holiday fun throughout the night as part of the celebration. Guests who feel moved to give can use the on-table QR codes or text-to-give option to support arts education in our community.

This is a free event and is open to all. The Roof will be first-come-first-served and opens at 5pm with our holiday menu of festive cocktails and bites.

About the CAPS Program

Since 1972, the Durham Arts Council’s CAPS program has brought professional artists into classrooms and community spaces across Durham, Granville, Orange, and Person counties. Each year, the program reaches more than 27,000 students with experiences that spark creativity, build confidence, and connect the arts to core subjects through:
Arts Integration: Residencies and workshops that link art to subjects like math, science, and literature.
Arts Exposure: Performances that introduce students to a wide range of art forms and cultural traditions.
Arts Skill-Building: Hands-on programs that help young people grow their creative skills.

A rich arts education helps students think critically, communicate with confidence, and approach challenges with stronger problem-solving skills. Supporting CAPS helps support the next generation of young artists and thinkers.
